York’s festive programme is being launched this week, with an extra ten days of entertainment.  With a new twist for this year, Parliament Street will be home to a Scandinavian style tipi, there’ll be a new Ice Trail and a special Choirs’ Weekend and the whole St Nicholas Festival and Fair will now run for 35 days.

New snug wooden chalets, dressed with pretty garlands and twinkling lights will line Parliament Street and extend into St Sampson’s Square, as well as appearing in Coppergate and on the terrace of The Judge’s Lodging on Lendal.  On 5th and 6th December local choirs will be popping up around York’s city centre streets and squares in a choral celebration of Christmas, as well as raising money for local homeless charity SASH.  Brass bands will add another musical note every Thursday evening through the festival.
