The Shop is back in Bishop Wilton

Published: 30th January, 2020

Fantastic News
Bishop Wilton Community Shop is now open for business.

After months of planning, meetings, hard work, determination, renovation, cleaning and shelf filling, it looks wonderful!

Local produce

Sitting here with my lovely cuppa I can see they sell just about everything you could need: from fresh fruit and veg, fridge, freezer and cupboard essentials, household items, newspapers and cards to wine and local beer all served by the friendliest staff.

The other great thing about Bishop Wilton Community Shop is that they have a cafe selling delicious local produce. Great for a natter with friends; take the weight off after a bracing stroll through the wonderful Yorkshire countryside or just a break to stretch those legs before getting back on your bike!

The shop itself used to be the old chapel and in renovation, they uncovered the original beams that haven’t seen daylight for over 100 years – simply stunning!

It’s only a 5 minute stroll from our lovely lodges – so pop in, say hi and grab a cuppa.

A huge congratulations to all those involved from Wolds Edge Holiday Lodges!

Who they are: We are a Community Benefit Society established in order to set up a sustainable village shop in Bishop Wilton. The shop is owned and managed by the community, run mainly by volunteers and operates for the benefit of the community as a whole. It will be attractive, welcoming and inclusive and will provide valuable services.

For most villages a shop is an important focal point and for some, especially those without transport, it is a vital lifeline. It is a meeting place, a communication hub and a linchpin of village life.

Much of the appeal of our village rests on its sense of community. It’s the reason many people have moved here and remain here. We think that our community shop will support and enhance that village spirit and we are looking forward to opening today!
